The guy in this image is doing a little more than mountain climbing in my view. Of course the average college student has an IQ of about 100, so one cannot expect any ethereal mental and emotional exploration it is true. To be honest I was not making the effort to win this contest, I have other priorities, I just submitted early to help get you some creativity going.

I see that you've contributed quite a bit! Thanks for your effort. You've done a better job than most in finding really eye-catching photos. In general, though, your captions need some work. Here are some motivations to keep in mind when creating captions: "Hmm, I hadn't really thought about going to an X School. Maybe I should" "I'm interested in X. I should find a school that fits me" "Deciding among all these X schools is tough, and it matters. I need some help"

dkoetke

The caption's not bad, but needs a totally different image. An image of actual college students sleeping would be good, but it would still need to be eye-catching.

The image is good. The tagline needs tweaking. The caption doesn't work at all. Maybe something about how early art education improves later performance? Something like that.

dkoetke

Aug 24, 2:16pm

This one is good. The caption and image work well together. The fact is specific to a particular university and would appeal to a prospective student for whom sports is an important factor in choosing a college.

dkoetke

Aug 24, 2:13pm

Regarding entry #109

Again, good caption, but needs a better image. And if there actually is a summer camp that offers skiing (or whatever) it would be good to cite it by name like you did with the #110, 111, and 112.

Regarding entry #111

You've definitely got the right idea as far as the captions go. I think this one is pretty much right on the mark of what they're looking for. The pictures, though need to be much more interesting and eye-catching, as they will be the initial hook for the viewer.

dkoetke

Aug 23, 2:07pm

Regarding entry #14

This is similar to #13, but better in that it more specifically addresses one of the possible Noodle searches. Still a little too generic, though. Needs more of a surprise or "hook" to the image-caption relationship.

dkoetke

Aug 23, 1:52pm

Regarding entry #13

This is nice, though I think the metaphor of mountain climbing as challenge is too overused. Seems to speak more of physical accomplishment than searching for the right educational “fit.” Overall too generic and non-specific to the goals of the client.

dkoetke

Aug 23, 1:49pm

This is a cute image, but maybe too "cutesy," and the caption is too general. I just don't think this cute animal theme is the direction that this client wants to go in. Thanks for your contribution, though!

Thank you to all the submitters so far. Here are a few more guidelines to help clarify how the captions and the photos need to work together a little bit better. Each ad should evoke one of the following motivations: "Hmm, I hadn't really thought about going to an X School. Maybe I should" "I'm interested in X. I should find a school that fits me" "Deciding among all these X schools is tough, and it matters. I need some help" Or, just be super-clever even if not motivating

Regarding entry #10

I'm kind of on the fence about this one—interesting factoid, definitely, and dental school is a good subcategory that shows the breadth of what can be searched on Noodle, but overall maybe it’s too creepy. Could work with another photo perhaps? Maybe just an empty dentist’s chair, which would imply the electric chair without actually showing it. Or an old photo of a dentist at work from around the turn of the century. Give it a shot if you feel like doing more searching.

Thank you kindly for your comment. You guessed right about the mash-up, perhaps I did take one conceptual step too far. -- My rational: According to www.doubletongued.org Rocket Surgery is often used jocularly in negative construction. Meaning: a task requiring intelligence or higher education; a difficult undertaking. I thought it might require the viewer to have double take when reading, enabling more time for the ad to make a mark in the viewer's memory. Would you like me to re-submit with "Rocket science" instead?

MettaMedia

Aug 20, 3:37pm

Regarding entry #12

This is a cute idea, though maybe too cute with the baby picture. Could work with a funny photo of an adult with a crazy hair situation if you feel like doing a little more photo searching.

dkoetke

Aug 20, 2:39pm

Regarding entry #7

This is a good one—definitely on the right track. The photo is eye-catching and amusing, and has a clarity and simplicity that works well for this project. The caption, even though it’s not a statistic or factoid, is still clever and funny and works well with the photo (though do you mean for “rocket surgery” to be a mash up of “rocket science” and “brain surgery”? If so, I think that may be one conceptual step too many—“rocket science” will work just fine here).

Noodle,
A lot of people are asking:
Do you want the captions to be specific to the university or just nice perks of a campus to think about in general?
IE: ACME College's band has won the national championships 10 out of the last 13 years.
or
University of Colorado offers X intramural sports to keep you busy.

Thanks for the submission miguelsil. This photo is intriguing. Please provide the cost and release information as well. I think the caption could be a more succinct while also revealing a bit more about the subject of the photograph. This picture makes me want to know more but the caption is a little flat. This is a good start.
