does anyone have any tips for getting more work in?

in my experience of freelance sites, most people 9/10 times go with people that have been freelancing for numerous years, so there doesnt seem to be a lot of scope or change for anyone new to get on the scene and make a name for themselves.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi ljdaniels,

I agree with you on that. I can't offer a perspective of a designer, but from a business standpoint, a more experienced freelancer would be preferred. When we need to hire a freelancer, it's tough to choose by looking at portfolios & years experience. That's one of the main reasons we created prova. We want freelance designers to be paid for their skill, not for how long they've been freelancing. We'd also like to have prova help you make a name for yourself. Let us know if there's any data we can collect that would help you out as a designer. We will be automatically placing your designs into a portfolio you can share.

If you have any suggestions on how we can help you get more work with Prova, please let us know.

Thanks,
-guru

So, I have the same experience. It is almost impossible to get work through a freelance site ike Guru.com or Elance if you aven't been doing those sites for a long time. I have been a member on both of those sites for a few months, and I haven't gotten anything at all, not even a logo for $50!

That is one of the biggest reasons I would like to see more sites like Prova. It lets you practice your design skills and get credible feedback while aattempting real life projects for good money!

Another site like Prova is DesignContest.net. But with them there is a catch: you have to approved to their elite design team to submit designs to their paid contests. I submitted an application for their team 2 weeks ago and haven't heard anything yet.

Thank you Prova for a no-catch freelance site that gives everyone a chance to show their skill!

Hey guys,
Thanks for the kind words. Your observations are exactly what we're going for with Prova. As you can tell, we're brand spankin' new, so the more ideas & suggestions we get to help you guys out, the better place we'll become. Seriously, you guys have the opportunity to shape Prova into what works best for you. Just as it's tough for a new freelancer in town to get a $50 logo bid, it's tough for a new website to get the clients. We're working on it, but helping us spread the word through Twitter, Facebook, & any business owners you know will help this community out in the long run. We've got buttons on our articles & Press Releases now to Digg, & share them.

Thanks for being a part of this community,

-guru

P.S. For obvious reasons, we'd rather this forum not be a place to advertise all our competitors
